Recently, the name of the Turkish general, Khalil Soyasel, has returned to the forefront, after reports of his death or injury in Libya.
Libyan media reports said that Soyasel was killed or injured in the raid by the Libyan National Army on a Turkish arms ship, in the port of Tripoli, last Tuesday.
Turkey has neither denied nor confirmed these reports.
Who is General Khalil Soyasel?
The Turkish "Super News" website stated in a report in January that Soyasel was appointed commander of the Turkish forces in Libya, pointing out that he is a well-known name in the army with titles of "claw", "black claw" and "falcon".
He was known for his successful completion of several military operations, according to the site, which did not address these operations.
He was the commander of a military garrison in the southeastern Turkish city of Siirt, according to the Turkish website Agrizos.
He was brigadier general in 2013, when he was a colonel in the Artillery Corps.
In 2015, he commanded the 3rd Brigade of the Turkish Army Special Forces.
He participated in Operation Euphrates Shield, launched by Turkey in Syria in 2016, in which Syrian factions loyal to Ankara participated.
In the summer of 2016, the Turkish general was serving in northern Iraq when the coup attempt took place, which he played a role in countering.
Prior to and during this operation, he trained the Syrian factions that participated in the operation.
Soyasel became a member of Turkey's Supreme Military Council in 2017.
In early August 2019, the general's name was mentioned in a news report published by the official Turkish news agency Anatolia about the leaders whose stay in office had been extended for one year.
Prior to the announcement of the memorandums of understanding between Turkey and the Sarraj government, Soyasel was in charge of the Army's 20th Infantry Division in the Army'sGendarmerie in a news that defined him as such in November 2019.
