The Italian government announced the closure of 11 towns, mostly in the Lombardy region, after discovering 79 new cases of the coronavirus, two of whom died Friday and Saturday.
The Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, announced in a press conference that "In zones considered hotspots, neither entry or exit will be authorized without special permission."
He also announced the closure of companies and schools in those areas and the abolition of public activities (such as festivals, sports competitions, school trips, etc.).
The main focus is in Codogno, 60 km from Milan. Since Friday evening, public places (such as bars, municipalities, libraries, and schools) have closed in this city and nine neighboring towns, except pharmacies.
The first injury appeared in Codogno to an Italian researcher working at Unilever, and he was placed in the intensive care unit in the hospital due to the deterioration of his condition. Injuries include his eight-month pregnant wife, his friend and three elderly people who used to visit a bar owned by his friend's father.
The second focus is in the town of Vo’Euganeo, in the Veneto region, the birthplace of the first Italian and European to die from the virus.
