On Friday, Lebanese Health Minister Hamad Hassan confirmed the first recorded infection of the novel coronavirus in the country.
Hassan pointed out in a press conference held at the Ministry of Health in the capital, Beirut, that the infected woman was returning from Iran.
"After the meeting of the committee concerned with infection control, and showing the results of the examination of the patient who was isolated while returning from the city of Qom in Iran, it was found that she was infected with corona," the minister said.
Hassan explained that the infected woman is 45 years old, and she is currently in the Rafik Hariri University Hospital, pointing out that her condition is stable and that she does not suffer any serious consequences.
According to the Minister of Health, besides being infected, there are two suspected cases of infection with the coronavirus, stressing that the Ministry is taking the necessary measures to deal with them according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization.
He continued: "All the measures taken by the Ministry of Health and the National Committee to combat Corona are sufficient, and this also applies to Rafik Hariri International Airport, where all arrivals to the country are checked."
Hassan called on the Lebanese to "not panic," adding that the ministry will communicate with the Lebanese and expatriates in the country during the past ten days to follow up on their situation and verify that Lebanon is free of any other corona infections.
