Giant bulls terrorize a French region

These animals, generally weighing between 300 kg and 600, including a small bison, fled on Wednesday morning in conditions still unclear from the farm where they lived.

Two local municipalities on Thursday issued resolutions restricting traffic because of the flight.

Local authorities tried unsuccessfully to return these animals to their sheds, with the help of elements from the National Fisheries and Wildlife Service.

"Bison animals can not be treated as if they are a herd of cattle," said Orelle Le Bourgua, an official in the French Alps region of Haute-Savoie.

"Bison animals remain relatively remote from populated areas, but there are streets dedicated to the park, so there is a risk of undesirable encounters," she said.

The situation prompted the local authorities to take a decision to eradicate these wild animals at dawn on Friday.
