French police deal with a "serious accident" in Lyon and reports of a priest injured

The French Interior Ministry said today, Saturday, that the police are dealing with a "dangerous accident" in Lyon, amid reports that a priest was shot.

The Ministry of the Interior said, in a brief statement via "Twitter", that security forces and ambulance units deployed in the Jean Massi area in the seventh district billion, due to a "serious accident."

The ministry stated that a security cordon had been imposed around the site of the accident, calling for refraining from visiting this area for the time being.

Meanwhile, police sources told several media outlets that an Orthodox priest was wounded by a shooting in the city, while the attacker managed to flee.

A source told "Reuters" that the priest was shot twice at around 16:00 local time while he was closing the church while he was receiving treatment at the site for serious injuries threatening his life.
