London wakes up to a huge and strange robbery

Jewellery worth £50 million ($64 million) stolen from a west London house owned by Tamara Ecclestone

The Sun newspaper reported that jewellery worth 50 million pounds ($ 64 million) was stolen from a West London house owned by Tamara Ecclestone, model and daughter of former official at the Formula 1 world, Bernie Ecclestone, in a robbery that sparked controversy over her circumstances.

The newspaper added that 3 thieves sneaked into Tamara, a 35-year-old house near Hyde Park on Friday, "in the absence of guards," to steal jewelry from the bedroom lockers.

The newspaper report indicated that Tamara, a famous model and figure in Britain, had just left the country for the Christmas holidays when the robbery occurred.

The robbery lasted 50 minutes, without the guards noticing something unusual at home.

A spokeswoman for the British Capital Police said she would not confirm any specific details, but when asked about the case, she said that the police had been called to a residential property in West London, after 23:00 on Friday evening to respond to reports of the burglary.

“Officers attended,” the spokeswoman said. “It was reported that an amount of high-value jewellery had been stolen. There have been no arrests. Inquiries continue.”

The Ecclestone family was not available for comment.
