A Turkish gold merchant has committed suicide in the southwestern city of Antalya, accompanied by his wife and two children, through poisoning after the father suffered a great financial loss due to the economic crisis in the country, according to preliminary investigations.

Father Sleim Shamshek himself wrote the motives for suicide in a letter saying that he did so because of the accumulation of debt on him and his lack of employment for nine months.

This is the third suicide incident in Turkey in 10 days.

The Turkish opposition blamed the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the recent recurrence of mass suicides of Turkish families because of the deteriorating economic situation.

In the same week that the merchant and his family committed suicide, the city of Istanbul witnessed a similar event, when four brothers committed suicide, also through their collective poison.

Neighbors of the family who recently committed suicide said that they were in financial distress, which recently caused the electricity company to cut off the service from them, because they could not pay the bill, they are all unemployed.

While the government avoided commenting on the incident, Iqd newspaper, which is close to the ruling party, justified the family's suicide by reading an atheist book, angering some Turks and prompting others to ridicule the newspaper.

The latest reports of the Turkish Statistical Commission pointed out that the unemployment rate in the country reached 13 percent in general, while the unemployment rate among young people to 27 percent, but opposition reports talk about much higher figures, and indicate that two people lose work in Turkey every "minute", because of the country's economic crisis.
