Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi has announced that he will make an "important cabinet reshuffle" in response to protesters' demands, after weeks of protests in the country.

Abdul Mahdi said in a statement on Saturday that the authorities had to restrict Internet services "when used by some to fuel violence."

The prime minister said that "anyone who assaulted, kidnapped or arrested outside the legal framework will be tried," and pledged to carry out new electoral reforms in the next few days.

He also said that any weapon outside the state would be banned, with any armed entity operating outside the state's control deemed illegal.
