A smartphone exploded while it was charging, killing its owner, who was sleeping nearby, in a tragic incident that sparked widespread sympathy in Jagatsinghpur district in India's Odisha state.
The Indian website "BGR" said that the phone exploded while charging, while the owner, 22-year-old Gavia, on Sunday, according to police reported.
The victim was named as Kona Pradhan, an Indian national from Ranpur village in Niagara district, police said, adding that he was working as a construction worker at the Jagannath temple in Paradip.
Police opened an investigation into the incident, and the body was taken to the morgue to determine the exact cause of death.
The smartphone model, which exploded and left huge smoke in the room, was not identified.
Kazakhstan witnessed a similar case a few days ago after a 14-year-old girl was killed by the explosion of her smartphone on her pillow.
Local police said at the time that the phone exploded while it was charging after the temperature rose.
