Ethiopian worker stabs her elderly employers in Lebanon

Providence saved an old man and his wife from dying with knife wounds to their Ethiopian worker, who committed her crime after spending years at their home in the Lebanese town of Habbouch.

"Al-Nahar" newspaper reported that the neighbors heard the screams of Abd al-Amir Mecca and his wife, so they rushed to find out what was going on, and they were shocked by their escape from the worker and blood was flowing from them, so that their relatives and the security forces who stopped the worker came.

A relative of Mecca (70 years old) told the newspaper that "four years ago we brought in a worker to be the helping hand for them, without expecting that a day would come and she would try to kill them, even though they were treating her as their daughter." And he added: "Yesterday she was showing anger. Inquiries from her about the reason, but she did not answer, after which she completed the work normally, and we were surprised by what happened."

He stressed that "the reason is not financial, as she is taking her fee of $ 200 in hard currency every month. What concerns us now is that Abd al-Amir and his wife are fine, and they were discharged from the hospital to which members of the Islamic Health Authority and the Lebanese Red Cross took them after receiving treatment."

It is noteworthy that foreign workers in Lebanon have been greatly affected by the economic crisis that this country has been facing for nearly a year. The Lebanese pound has deteriorated dramatically against the US dollar. After one dollar reached 1,500 Lebanese pounds, it reached nearly 10,000 pounds, which caused difficulty in securing the salaries of foreign workers.

Workers carried out sit-ins in front of their country's consulate in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, and laid waste to the land as a form of pressure to return them to their country, after their employers abandoned them on the pretext of being unable to pay salaries.
